well ...

i just thought i would add this post to comment on a couple of things. first, i have reposted this blog to the blogspot web site. that might help in the long run, as i am not sure whether or not i will keep my humboldt web site.

also, i have created a new blog for the news that i find. that is going to be more for current events. i will still post old events that i find in this blog, but its use will be more for personal diatribe.

well ... that's it for now.

Cannot find Weapons of Mass Destruction

pieter sent me this in an e-mail. you get to it by going to google.com, typing the words 'weapons of mass destruction' (without the quotes), then doing the 'i'm feeling lucky' search.

NRDC: The Internet and the Bomb - Nuclear Weapons Contractors

just doing some work for the nuke free zone web site. but i ran across this and thought it would be worth it for me to save this for later review.

General Dynamics

general dynamics is a weapons manufactuer, enough said.

BNFL

though not a weapons manufactuer, british nuclear fuels is on the cutting edge of nuclear technology. this is a large company dedicated to the development of nuclear energy.

Lockheed Martin - We never forget who we're working for.

you don't really need to do a lot of research on lockheed martin. the company is pretty straight forward about its work.

IBM to build fastest supercomputers | CNET News.com

this is an article from cnet that says that ibm won a $290 million dollar contract to build the two fastest supercomputers ever at the lawrence livermore national lab. one of those machines will be used specifically for nuclear weapons research.

Dirty Dozen - Mitsubishi

this is from the reachingcriticalwill.org web site. it claims that mitsubishi, though not a weapons manufactuer, makes equipment that could make weapons. it also says that the corporation is working with lockheed martin to perfect the f-2 fighter.

this web site also claims that mitsubishi owns the kirin brewery of america.

after double checking with the mitsubishi web site -- www.mitsubishi.com -- i have come to the conclusion that mitsubishi is with out a doubt in the business of nuclear contracting, though i did not find evidence that it includes weapons, per se.

President Declares "Freedom at War with Fear"

i found this today. it is the full text of the president's speech on sept. 20, 2001. i remember being so scared when i saw this. i went over to pam's house right after it was over and told her about i was sure it was his way of saying that the united states was going to be using nuclear weapons to fight al qaeda. it was also a very christian sounding speech. he talked about how al qaeda wanted the world to be ruled in the style of afghanistan and how they wanted to push the christians and the jews out of the eastern hemisphere.

i was kind of disturbed. and to be honest, i think that as time goes by, we may really see what it was like to live in germany in the late 30s. you know, everything must have seemed great. but really, the nation's prosperity was built on evil. not a lot unlike how the united states used slavery as a means to its ends. or how the same sort of mentality seems to thrive in some of the capitalistic leaders.

i wonder if the solution for the united states is to finally drop its guard against marxism, and let there be multiple parties for multiple beliefs. but that's probably all just crazy talk.

the fact is that since this speech, the united states has been using nuclear weapons, both against afghanistan and iraq. maybe not bombs, but depleted uranium munitions are just as amoral. and sooner or later, i imagine that someone else in the world will have to put their feet down for what is right.

i think i am just scared by that notion that the strongest have to be the ones to stand up for what is right (good old dag). it sort of implies that unless you are the strongest nation, you can't really stop the ones that get out of control. and that you are downright fucked when it's the strongest nation that is out of control.

Arcata, CA -- Nuclear Weapons Free Zone Commission

this is what i have been working on for the past day or so. i am the vice chair on the arcata nuclear weapons free zone committee. i am doing a lot of work on it, but i wanted to have a link somewhere, so that i may direct people's attention to it -- you know, like my fellow commissioners.
